In order to promote the mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges in politics, economy, culture, education, trade and other various fields between China and other countries, the Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship programs to sponsor international outstanding students, teachers and scholars to study and conduct research in Chinese universities. China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC), entrusted by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as MOE), is responsible for the enrollment and the administration of Chinese Government Scholarship programs. Now, 279 designated Chinese universities offer a wide variety of academic programs in Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Economics, Legal Studies, Management, Education, History, Literature, Philosophy, and Fine Arts for scholarship recipients at all levels.

I Supporting Categories, Duration and Instruction Language,College and Majors

Chinese Government Scholarship programs sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to undertake degree studies (bachelor, master and PhD) and Chinese language study or academic research in institutions of higher education in China.DurationChinese Government Scholarship covers both major study and Chinese language (preparatory) study. The table below illustrates the duration of each program.

instruction Language:

1.Chinese Government Scholarship undergraduate students’ instruction language is Chinese. Chinese Government Scholarship students who come to China for undergraduate degree are required to spend one year studying Chinese and basic knowledge at the designated preparatory colleges and Universities,and to pass the required test before moving on to their major studies.

 

At present, the Ministry of education entrust Tianjin University ,Nanjing Normal University, Shandong University, Huazhong Normal University, Tongji University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Northeast Normal University, Beijing International Studies University, Capital Normal University to undertake the preparatory education of Chinese government scholarship undergraduate students.

* Students who satisfy one of the following two conditions, can apply for exemption from the preparatory education:
    ①Students who completed their secondary education in Chinese,Official documents from secondary schools that proves the instruction language of compulsory courses in the secondary education stage is Chinese must be attached to the application.

②Students who have a valid HSK certificate that meets the requirements of the host university,a photocopy of a valid HSK certificate must be submitted for a preparatory course exemption application. Please NOTE that HSK results are valid for only 2 years.

2.Graduate and non-degree scholarship students’ instruction language is generally Chinese,but can register the English-taught program if applicable(For details, please refer to the Chinese college and major introduction (http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or http://www.campuschina.org).

①Scholarship recipients of Chinese-taught programs without adequate Chinese proficiency must take Chinese language courses for one to two academic years to reach the language requirements of their host universities before moving on to their major studies. Failure to reach the required language proficiency will lead to the automatic termination of scholarship. Chinese language courses will be one year for majors in Science, Engineering, Agriculture, West Medicine, Economics, Management, Legal Studies and Fine Arts, and be no more than two years for majors in Literature, History, Philosophy and Chinese Medicine.

 

②Scholarship recipients of the English-taught programs or those with adequate Chinese language proficiency do not need to take Chinese language courses.

Notes:1.Type one includes philosophy, economics, law, pedagogy, literature (except  Art), history and management. Type two includes: Science, Engineering and Agronomy, and Type three includes literature (Art) and medicine.

1. Full Scholarship covers

 ●Tuition waiver. Tuition funds will be comprehensively used by the host university. It may cover scholarship students’ education, administration costs and expenditures to support student activities.

   ●Accommodation: free university dormitory or accommodation subsidy.If the host university requires students to live on campus, the university will accommodate the scholarship students in a university dormitory(usually a twin room)

  ●Stipend:

Undergraduate students: CNY 2,500 per month;

Master’s students/general scholars: CNY 3,000 per month;

Doctoral students/senior scholars: CNY 3,500 per month.

2. Partial scholarship covers

One or some items of the full scholarship.

 

III CSC-Chinese University Program :

Chinese university Program type:  B

Application Deadline:April 15, 2018

The "Chinese university Program" is a full scholarship program offering to the provincial educational administration departments and Chinese universities in some provinces and autonomous regions of China. It is applied to some Chinese universities to directly select and recruit outstanding foreign young students to study in China. This program only enrolls graduate and doctoral students.

Application Deadline:April 15, 2018

The "Chinese Bilateral Program" is a full  or partial scholarship based on educational cooperation and exchange agreements or reached consensus between China and governments of related countries, institutions, schools, and international organizations.It is applied to some Chinese universities to directly select and recruit outstanding foreign young students to study in China.  This project can enroll undergraduates, postgraduates, doctoral students, general scholars, and senior scholars.

  1. Pre-admission Notice will not be provided in CSC-Chinese University Program.
  2. Students who apply the CSC-Chinese University Program DO NOT need to pay the registration fee on-line after you apply on SWJTU application system.
  3. Students who apply scholarship program do not need to mail the hard-copy aplication materials to university again.
  4. Students who apply the CSC-Bilateral Program and want a pre-admission notice need to apply on SWJTU application system(http://iso.swjtu.edu.cn). After getting approval of academic materials from professors, International Students Office will provide pre-admission notice to you. Then you need to apply on CSC application system again(www.csc.edu.cn). Very Important:the application type of CSC-Bilateral Program is A.
